Blueberry, Toasted Oak, Vanilla
The 2017 Bear Flag Zinfandel leads with aromas of freshly baked blueberry pie. Layers of dark, dense fruit evokes bubbly blueberries while toasted oak and vanilla notes deliver hints of flaky crust. A dash of spice subtly accents the plush, lingering mouthfeel. In 2017, fruit was sourced from select, premier vineyards within Sonoma County. When blended, each terroir adds a unique layer of flavor and creates a memorable style. In 2017, record winter rainfall replenished the soil followed by a temperate spring and bud break came as expected. In September, impressive heat hastened harvest, but subsequent cool weather restored maturation to a more gradual pace. The resulting clusters had a typical mix of large plump berries (containing juicy berry highlights and youthful tannins), tiny bead-sized berries (vibrant acidity) and ultra- ripe, shriveled berries (intense syrupy, candied hints).

Dark Fruit, Ripe Black Raspberries, Cedar
Rattlesnake Zinfandel is a tribute to the crest called Rattlesnake Hill, the highest point of the Monte Rosso Vineyard. It’s famous for the rattlesnakes living among the vines, seeking the abundant sunshine by day and coiling around and inside the vines at nightfall. Full-bodied with a spicy frame, this Zinfandel boasts rich aromatics and explosive dark fruit notes. Ripe black raspberry, blueberry, cedar and earth are balanced and seamlessly interwoven throughout the mid-palate. The wine’s intense concentration sits atop well-tamed tannins and is accentuated by generous acidity. Grapes for the 2016 Rattlesnake Zinfandel were primarily selected from Monte Rosso Vineyard (86%) including the Rattlesnake block, as well as Frei Ranch Vineyard in the Dry Creek Valley (8%) and a long-term grower partner in the Alexander Valley (6%). The 2016 season was remarkably even and steady, allowing for optimum flavor development and retention of acidity. Slow, steady and consistent, the character of vintage 2016 shows up in this wine through excellent concentration and outstanding complexity.

Blueberries, Black Plums, Vanilla
Our Lodi Zin explodes with blueberries, black plums, vanilla, and cocoa. Lush and mouthfilling, with incredibly silky tannins that slide into a long, flavorful finish. Uncork now for a tempting taste, or cellar for up to 10 years of flavor development. The Lodi region is characterized by warm days and cool nights with deep, sandy soils, forcing the vine's roots to push deep to find water and nutrients. The old vines that supply our Lodi Zinfandel typically are the first of our three County Zinfandels to be harvested. The warm days and early ripening lead to a soft and very fruit-driven Zinfandel.
