The 2020 Apothic Rosé is a light, refreshing wine with a dark nature. Aromas of rose petals and honey open, revealing notes of dark cherry, black raspberry and ripe strawberry on a clean mouthfeel. The finish is long with a burst of watermelon at the end.

Viticulture Notes:
California’s 2020 vintage experienced a cool, mild growing season with an accelerated heat spell in August, resulting in early ripening. Vintage 2020 grapes show vibrant acidity and concentrated flavor. We explored the state to find the best fruit for this blend from the heart of the Central Valley and Lodi. We harvested at the peak of quality to make a light-bodied, crisp and refreshing Rosé.

Winemaking Notes:
Most of the fruit was harvested at night to limit color extraction. The grapes were delivered in whole clusters to our membrane presses for the gentlest processing possible. We kept fermentation temperatures cool to preserve delicate red fruit aromas. A small portion of the blend underwent malolactic fermentation and lees stirring to create a soft, refreshing mouthfeel. The wine was kept cool until blending to maintain a perfect balance of acid and fruit.

The wine was then moved to stainless steel tanks to preserve its brightness and balance.

Plush, polished and approachable, J Multi-Appellation Pinot Noir delivers classic fruit-driven character and beautiful balance. Generous aromas of ripe red berries and dark fruit lead to an expressive and layered palate with flavorful notes of both red and black cherry, blackberry, cocoa and plum. A subtle touch of toast, vanilla and baked strawberry add texture and depth to the long, memorable finish. Enjoy this paired alongside barbecued pork dishes, cheeseburgers topped with aged white cheddar or grilled portobello steak. For a cheese pairing, try an aged gouda with fig jam.

VITICULTURE NOTES
For vintage 2020, we looked to Santa Barbara, Sonoma and Monterey Counties to deliver this plush and distinctive Pinot Noir, relying on a collection of estate vineyards for the majority of our fruit. Overall, the 2020 vintage was early with lower yields of exceptionally high-quality fruit. A mild winter led to an early emergence of budbreak, which had to be protected in late spring frosts. The growing season was warm and temperate throughout the summer, chilled by cool coastal breezes at night. The even-paced season was ideal developing mature, well balanced fruit. Harvest began in late August, offering beautifully structured fruit with generous flavors and exquisite complexity.

WINEMAKING NOTES
We harvested whole grape clusters before de-stemming and delivering to stainless steel fermentation tanks. Following a five-day cold soak, the must fermented for seven to ten days, receiving regular punch-downs tailored to each lot. Once dry, the wine was drained to tank and barrel to undergo malolactic fermentation before aging on a combination of French and American oak. Blending took place in the summer with a special focus on maximizing the unique stylistic contributions of lots from each county.
