About this product

Medium healthy red color, with nary a sign of brown at the rim. Nose of strawberry/rhubarb and peach, with a possible suggestion of citrus, viz. blood orange. Definite notes of autumnal spice - cloves, allspice and hints of sandalwood or other scented candle one might find in the boudoir of an ageing hippie. Good volume on the palate: the wine seems to expand with exposure to air in the way that inspirational Pinot/Burgundy sometimes does. Not at all densely tannic, but extremely persistent on the palate. Contradicting all the received wisdom: Grenache is a grape capable of great elegance and complexity (as this wine shows) and one certainly destined to live for many years.

Crisp aromas of strawberry, pomegranate, rose petals and sumac are sharp and focused on the nose of this bottling from Randall Grahm, who slightly dried these grapes post-harvest. Sour cherry and alpine strawberry flavors rise on the sip, with fresh flowers and a light hint of dried meat also showing.

The 2020 Grenache En Passerillage, made with 50% whole clusters, is a refreshing, easy-to-drink style. It has a pale ruby-purple color and layered, spicy aromas of blueberries, strawberries and raspberries with hints of autumn leaves, orange peel, aniseed, lilac and lavender. Despite its slender frame of dusty tannins and juicy acidity, it offers notably concentrated flavors, lots of spicy accents and a long, floral finish. Yum!
