Throughout the world of wine there are distinct and highly-prized geographical areas where soil and climate interact to produce grapes that uniquely express their sense of place through wine. These prized vineyard areas are situated within appellations of the old (primarily Europe) and new (mostly the rest of the world) world but are rarely combined in the art of blending, due to local laws and restrictions. These local laws and restrictions make it almost impossible to express true winemaking freedom.

Locations seeks out high-quality vineyards, and forward-thinking growers, across appellations to create a wine that proudly represents the best viticultural parcels of that country or location. Their quest is for old vines with low yields, to bring out the best of a specific vineyard and area. They then combine these parcels of place to craft a wine that pays homage to the country of origin; a wine that makes all of us proud.

Winemaker Dave Phinney

The history of Dave Phinney dates back to 1995 when Dave took a friend up on an offer and went to Florence, Italy to spend a semester abroad. During that time, he was introduced to wine, how it was made, and had to know more. A few more years of university led to graduation and eventually a job at Robert Mondavi Winery in 1997 as a temporary harvest worker. Deciding that if he was going to work this hard it would eventually have to be for himself, so in 1998 he founded his first wine brand with two tons of zinfandel and not much else.

He spent the next decade making wine for others as well as himself and has now grown multiple companies into internationally renown brands. His international ambition with Locations Wine has led him to Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Corsica, Argentina and other locations around the globe. The vision here is to create the best possible wine that represents its Location across wine regions of the world. The intent is to make wine less complicated and remove restrictions that limit freedom and sense of expression. As such, Locations purposefully blends across appellations to produce wine removing restrictions held within traditional winemaking circles. An ambitious project where innovation and freedom meet on a global journey of discovery, exploring the worlds Locations through wine.

Wines

Locations is based on a simple concept – make the best possible wine from a given country or location. This simple concept ended up being pretty challenging to put into action. Dave Phinney travelled the world, explaining the concept to some of the worlds’ finest vineyard owners, eventually turning skeptics into believers, and secured some of the best fruit to make the Locations wines. In the process of creating Locations, they’ve had a lot of fun, visiting incredible vineyard sites and meeting amazing people, while challenging each other to make the best wine possible.

The Collection

Locations CA California Red Wine 750ML

Provided with a wide assortment of microclimates and soil profiles to exploit, California can be a winemaker's dream. We navigated the famed appellations of Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, and the Sierra foothills to reach our goal of creating a blend that showcases the best of the Golden State. Blend Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Syrah, Malbec, Grenache Winemaker Notes A diverse set of aromas present themselves—blueberry compote, maraschino cherries, brambly raspberry and a touch of licorice and tomato leaf. The palate is silky smooth, almost slippery, with bursting flavors of ripe strawberry, red plum, kirsch and graham cracker. Chalky tannins and a long-structured finish round out the wine. Aging Barrel aged 10 months in French oak barrels

Locations FR French Red Wine 750ML

We have incorporated some of the best regions in France, drawing upon our network of growers from Rhone, Roussillon, and Bordeaux. Our commitment to quality has enabled us to secure fruit from exceptional old vine blocks in revered sub-appellations. Blend Grenache, Syrah, and assorted Bordeaux varietals Winemaker Notes A dominant nose of red raspberries and wild strawberries, which leads into notes of cranberry, cherry, and rhubarb compote. The wine is fresh and lively with bright acidity, smooth texture, and chewy tannins. Aging Barrel aged 10 months prior to release

Locations E Spanish Red Wine 750ML

Opens with aromatic notes of tobacco, cigar box, and ripe plum, and leads to an opulent palate of dark berries, earth, hints of spice, and sweet tobacco with a lengthy, luscious finish.
