The 2017 Bear Flag Zinfandel leads with aromas of freshly baked blueberry pie. Layers of dark, dense fruit evokes bubbly blueberries while toasted oak and vanilla notes deliver hints of flaky crust. A dash of spice subtly accents the plush, lingering mouthfeel. In 2017, fruit was sourced from select, premier vineyards within Sonoma County. When blended, each terroir adds a unique layer of flavor and creates a memorable style. In 2017, record winter rainfall replenished the soil followed by a temperate spring and bud break came as expected. In September, impressive heat hastened harvest, but subsequent cool weather restored maturation to a more gradual pace. The resulting clusters had a typical mix of large plump berries (containing juicy berry highlights and youthful tannins), tiny bead-sized berries (vibrant acidity) and ultra- ripe, shriveled berries (intense syrupy, candied hints).
