In the famed book, The Count of Monte Cristo, protagonist Edmond Dantes arrives to Marseille on a ship named ‘Pharaon.’ The word’s etymological roots and context since inspired Dave Phinney’s philosophy and the reserve wine for Department 66. Aromas of sweet oak, dark chocolate liqueur and Tahitian vanilla are complemented by ripe plum and herbal sage notes. Savory red fruit flavors of boysenberry and rhubarb fill the palate and blend with a glimpse of schist and minerality. Firm tannins are primed for extended aging while lingering acidity extends the finish across the palate.

Our 2022 GSM is a medium-bodied blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Aromas of violet, blueberry and a tap of white pepper rise from the glass. The mouthfeel is soft with layers of ripe raspberry and strawberry. Subtle hints of toasted oak and mocha pull through the finish.

Our 2021 William Hill Cabernet Sauvignon opens with aromas of dark fruit and baking spice. The softly textured palate is marked by notes of blueberry compote, fig and caramel with subtle hints of vanilla and dried herbs.

Our 2021 Apothic Cab captures the best of Cabernet Sauvignon, bringing a silky, elegant and delicate dimension to the typically bold characteristics of the variety. This wine showcases Cabernet Sauvignon’s distinctive fruit characteristics of blueberry, blackberry jam and dark plum, supported by soft, fine tannins that add plush richness to the mouthfeel. A small addition of Zinfandel to the wine adds layers of cherry and dark fruit notes as well as a hint of spice. Subtle suggestions of vanilla linger on the smooth finish, a reflection of the wine’s selective oak aging..<br><br> <b>Viticulture Notes:</b><br>We selected the majority of the grapes for Apothic Cab from Lodi in California’s Delta region. California’s 2021 growing season was cool and mild, with a heat spell in August that resulted in an earlier than average harvest. Wines from this vintage showcase vibrant acidity and concentrated flavors.<br><br> <b>Winemaking Notes:</b><br>We selected Cabernet Sauvignon grapes with the most intense fruit profile and the finest tannins, handling fruit with a soft touch in the cellar. We added a small portion of Zinfandel to the blend to complement the wine’s uniquely approachable palate and add additional dark and jammy characteristics. After harvest, fruit was destemmed with marginal crushing to gently extract color and tannins. Portions of the blend were aged on oak for two to four months to preserve elegant fruit notes and impart hints of vanilla.

Our 2021 Apothic Merlot is a silky, approachable red wine grown in California. Notes of blackberry and blueberry are underscored by hints of toasted oak and coconut. A touch of Teroldego enhances the Merlot’s untamed character with layers of boysenberry and dark chocolate. The fruit melds together seamlessly with plush tannins that pull straight through to the long finish. <br><br> <b>Winemaking & Viticulture Notes</b><br> The majority of the Merlot and Teroldego for this wine was sourced from the Lodi region of Central California. We selected Merlot grapes for their dark fruit intensity and generous tannins to create a velvety mouthfeel. Portions of this wine were oak-aged for 3-4 months to preserve elegant fruit characteristics.

Prophecy Pinot Noir 2021 is a bright, medium-bodied red wine grown in California. Aromas of red fruit open in the glass with a touch of Tahitian vanilla and toasted coconut. The palate is refreshing with layers of cherry and raspberry underscored by accents of spice. A well-balanced mouthfeel leads to a long, velvety finish.

Our 2020 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is a bold expression from Paso Robles, where ideal growing conditions produce intense flavor characteristics in wine. A bouquet of black plum, dark cherry and rich cassis meet notes of roasted fig and shaved chocolate. The mouthfeel is decadent with a creamy texture and touches of plum leading to a lasting finish.

Barefoot Cabernet Sauvignon positively bursts with bold, round layers of raspberry and blackberry jam then finishes with notes of currant and smooth vanilla.

Aromas of bing cherry, blackberry and cassis with hints of chocolate mocha and caramel. The palate is full-bodied and rich with flavors of ripe berries and dark fruit, supported by silky tannins and notes of vanilla marshmallow and layers of spice on a complex, long finish. <br><br> While below average winter rainfall led to some light early spring irrigation, the 2021 growing season continued with favorable warm spring weather that aided vines to reach max canopy height. Summer temperatures heated up and slowed down vine growth as vines transitioned into fruit development. Weather leading into harvest was relatively cool and uneventful. Moderate day temperatures and cool nights ensured extended hang times, which resulted in wines with great structure, round mouthfeel, and balanced flavors

Our Columbia Winery 2021 Tempranillo is a bold, intriguing red wine. Aromas of raspberry and cherry mingle with hints of dried fig, crushed pink pepper and shredded clove. Decadent layers of plum and thimbleberry with dusts of cocoa and orange zest fill the soft palate. Textured tannins lead to a long finish with a touch of vibrant sour cherry.

Our 2020 Reserve Syrah is a dry, full-bodied red wine with rustic tones of dark fruit and savory spice. Aromas of dark plum and earthy notes of toasted wood and leather rise from the glass with hints of cracked pepper and anise. Rich notes of blackcurrant balance on the palate with chewy tannins while aromas of crushed violet, black tea and espresso garnish the finish.

Our 2021 Central Coast Pinot Noir is a medium-bodied, fruit-forward wine grown with a coastal influence. Bright fruit aromatics greet the nose with hints of black tea leaf and leather. The mouthfeel fills with notes of ripe raspberry and tart pomegranate. On the finish, the fruit notes are underscored with accents of pepper and toasted caramel.

Our Ghost Pines Cabernet Sauvignon opens with aromas of black cherry, chocolate and a hint of spice on the nose. On the palate, nuances of blackberry, ripe plum, black currant and vanilla bean add complexity to this rich, exceptionally smooth Cabernet Sauvignon. Well balanced, with fine tannins and hints of oak featuring on the long finish.

A vibrant ruby red in color, this 2020 Zinfandel opens with aromas of ripe cherry, blackberry, subtle notes of spice and a hint of leather. On the palate, perfectly ripe red berry and further red fruit flavors are accompanied by a balanced structure, firm tannins and a touch of warm spice on a gentle toasty finish. <br><br> This Old Vine Zinfandel is sourced from two historical vineyards – Arbor Vineyard and Fathom Ranch – both located in the Mokelumne River AVA, a sub-appellation of the Lodi AVA that is home to more Old Vine Zinfandel vineyards than any region in the U.S. The heritage, head-trained Zinfandel vines in these low-yielding vineyards range from 60 to over 100 years old, with roots that reach deep into well-drained, sandy loam soils. With a Mediterranean climate featuring warm, sunny days and evenings cooled by breezes off the Sacramento River Delta, the Lodi AVA has long been recognized as one of the finest AVAs for growing intensely flavored Zinfandel. Certified sustainable under the highly respected Lodi Rules for Sustainable Farming program, these vineyards promote biodiversity, soil and water health, and community and employee well-being.

When we decided not to make Mercury Head in 2020, the anticipation for the next release was palpable. In the cellar, we were giddy, ready to assemble a blend worthy of the famed dimes. The 2021 vintage was fortuitous in both yield and quality, giving us a lot of components to make trial blends with. We’re very excited to bring back Mercury Head as 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from both the Stagecoach and Warnock Vineyards on Atlas Peak, the Morisoli Vineyard in Rutherford and the Taplin Vineyard in St. Helena. <br><br> <b>WINEMAKER’S NOTES</b><br> An almost-black, opaque garnet core sit s in the glass with slow-moving tears falling down the sides. Immediate aromatic notes of ripe cassis, charred ribeye, sandalwood and freshly cut oak pilfer—breathe deeper for more. The first sip is a complex, layered conundrum of blackberry, black plum, fennel, licorice and dark chocolate. More sips peel back the layers to reveal a rich and balanced wine with a deep cassis core. A sweet linger on the finish closes the wine with softly textured chalky tannins.

In 1964, Louis P. Martini, son of Napa pioneer Louis M. Martini, purchased 178 acres of land which the Martini family developed into a vineyard they named Ghost Pines as a tribute to the native grey pines which at dusk, appear to hover, solitary and ghostlike throughout the coastal valleys. <br><br> Ghost Pines Merlot draws from multiple winegrowing counties to create a wine as unique as the Ghost Pine itself. Hints of black cherry and ripe berries complement mocha and brown spice notes finishing with a generous, supple texture.

Flavorful and smooth, Our 2021 Frei Brothers Reserve Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic expression of this acclaimed region. Blackberry and black cherry notes on the nose carry through to the silky-smooth palate, complemented by layered hints of dark plum, berry compote, cocoa and hints of spice. Subtle touches of light oak and caramel highlight the long, beautifully balanced finish.

TRE stands for its three grape varieties Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as for its three Tuscan vineyards (Maremma, Castellina and Radda in Chianti). The assemblage is dominated by Sangiovese with 70 percent, but Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon also bring their charm with 15% each. This well-structured, medium-bodied wine is aged for twelve months before it is bottled. Two thirds of the expansion takes place in French tonneaux and one in cement. This elegant, well-structured cuvée offers plenty of drinking pleasure now or later and goes well with every kitchen. “There is no better entry-level wine than this,” says Monica Larner (for Robert Parker) with reference to the TRE 2014. And James Suckling states: “Really delicious, really juicy, with wonderful aromas of red fruits.” <br><br> Ideal with: pasta and rice dishes, light roasted or sautéed meat, poultry, fried or grilled fish. Our favorite: with Vitello Tonnato with fresh capers.

Our 2021 Hahn Founder's Merlot expresses aromas of black cherry, red ripe plum, with hints of vanilla and spice. The palate mimics those fruits with a touch of blackberry, mocha and velvety tannins, while a rich and luscious mouthfeel tie the whole package together.
