Pick it just right... well, what do you think? 2019 marks the third release of our eight-part passion play known as 8 Years in the Desert. As we meander through the coming years and remaining vintages, the wine, as well as the labels on the bottle, will continue to evolve. If we do our jobs right, the wine should only get better.  The labels have a bit more of a pre-ordained nature — they’re all born from the original eight featured in the limited edition. Each vintage will revisit the original labels in sequential order. Some of you know them all, some of you only know label #1. Some will like what comes next, some will hate it. But suffice to say they are all cut from a similar cloth.  As with the previous four vintages, our 2019 blend combines the heart and body of Zinfandel with the nuance and complexity of Syrah, Petite Sirah, and Grenache. Sourced from quality vineyards like Monte Rosso, Bismark, Korte, and Frei Ranch, 8 Years in the Desert uses only our favorite lots of each grape. Double-blind tasted and aged over a ten-month period, we are very proud of our 2019 vintage and hope you enjoy it now and for many years to come. Tasting Notes: Evolving aromatics present themselves first with black and white pepper, then a ripe fruit core of brambly raspberry and sweet persimmon, finishing with savory notes of allspice, clove and fig leaf. Boisterous yet elegant on entry, the wine shows its plush layers with distinctive strawberry preserves, blackberry and raspberry pie topped with fresh crème. Round, ripe tannins close the palate menacingly, leaving one with a desperate thirst for more.

Argiano is one of the oldest winemaking estates in Montalcino and a cofounder of the Consorzio di Brunello di Montalcino. Since joining the winery in 2010, winemaker Bernardino Sani has embraced organic practices and minimized winemaking intervention. Argiano's Brunello is the winery's benchmark expression of this philosophy. 2016 is a bona fide classic vintage. Where 2015 showed the powerful side of Brunello, 2016 will show its grace and structure. A wet spring kept water resources replenished throughout the season. A warm, even summer with cool nights gave balance and depth. Harvest occurred in mid-September. On the well-structured palate, juicy notes of cherry, plum and blackberry blend with hints of soft leather and licorice.
