We like this wine. If we had a “pick of the week,” this could be it. Great value and a good all-purpose Cabernet. Gallo has the resources to do things right – like taking time to let the grapes cold soak, and using premium yeast to get better flavor and texture. Big production, but great attention to detail.

Full flavors of blackberry and black currant, with a satisfying undertone of vanilla oak. Soft, smooth mouthfeel.

Gallo created its “Café” wines as a lower alcohol (9%) alternative. But these wines have carved their own niche. No longer an alternative, they stand on their own. They are delicate and delicious, almost refined.

Light golden color, attractive floral notes, with flavors of fresh fruit, red apple. Creates a juicy sweetness in the mouth.

Gallo describes this as a “casual” wine. We take that to mean it’s easy to enjoy without dressing up. Call your friends for a low-key get together, and open a bottle. Light alcohol (8.5 %) makes it great on its own or next to simple food. Try it chilled.

This rich, deep red wine is hearty indeed. No shortage of flavor here: Zinfandel, Syrah, Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon were blended together to give this signature Gallo wine its complex layers.

Who among us likes lots of flavor in a glass of wine? Of course, we all do. Gallo gets a lot of flavor and character into this Merlot. Careful winemaking (think temperature control and continuous monitoring) leads to a wine that retains good varietal typicity in a delicious, approachable style.

Medium-bodied and very refreshing. Fresh tree fruit flavors with citrus piquancy. Nicely balanced, with a crisp finish.

Gallo winemakers returned to the family’s Italian roots to find this light-bodied and delightful Pinot Noir. The Pavi region in Lombardy, north of Milan, is making some very fashionable wines. Winemaking came to this region from the ancient Greeks, and the long experience shows.

A charming, lighter style of Pinot Noir. Medium-bodied with red and dark cherry aromas and fruit flavors. Velvet at the end.

Sauvignon Blanc means many things to many people: grassy, herbal, fruity, aromatic. The key to this wine is balance. All things in moderation and in place. This edition is tipped slightly toward the California “fruit forward” end of the spectrum. Still crisp and refreshing.

Flavors of honeydew melon, citrus and ripe apple. A little sweetness on the finish leaves a pleasant aftertaste.

You might call this “Merlot-Light” – all of the flavor with less alcohol (10 %). Nobody knows more about making California wine than Gallo does, and they show here what can be done with a good idea, good grapes and conscientious winemaking. They pull the juice off the skins when they have just the right blush color.

Close your eyes, and it’s all there: flavors of ripe plum, blueberry, even tangy hints of cranberry. Light-bodied, refreshing, balanced.
