Shiraz - Syrah
The Grape. The Region. The Syrah grape gained its world-class reputation in France, dominating the offerings of the Northern Rhone region and appearing in a variety of Southern Rhone blends. Introduced to Australia in 1832, the same grape by a different name – Shiraz – catapulted Australian wine to the world stage. While France and Australia are responsible for most of the world’s Syrah/Shiraz acreage today, the grape is growing in popularity in both California and South Africa.
Syrah/Shiraz thrives in warm climates – resulting in soft, ripe tannins – and it ranks among the easiest grapes to cultivate in the vineyard.
Wine Style. Wine Flavor.
Syrah/Shiraz is typically full-bodied with a richly textured taste, exhibiting two modes of expression: fruit and spice. Layers of fruit-driven blueberry and mulberry mingle with spice, herb and wood smoke.
In its youth, Syrah/Shiraz is a supple, high-impact wine. Extended bottle aging results in rich, earthy aromas, hinting of forest floor, dried fruits and braised meats.
Sip. Eat.
Let the exceptional fruit and spice flavors of Syrah/Shiraz emerge, by pairing it with barbequed meats or duck.
