    Italy

Wine is an important part of everyday life in Italy. That’s no surprise, since Italy and wine have gone hand-in-hand for thousands of years. Long before Rome, the Greeks and Etruscans introduced wine to the region.

With such strong roots in winemaking and 20 distinct winegrowing regions, Italy is one of the world’s top wine producers.

Italian wine is often synonymous with red wine, like Sangiovese from the famous Tuscany region, with its rolling, vineyard-covered hillsides. Sangiovese is the base for Chianti and is often blended with Cabernet Sauvignon for a dry, sophisticated red wine.

Italy also produces dry white wines, from grapes like Pinot Grigio (Italian for Pinot Gris) and Trebbiano.
