California

In the United States, California accounts for 90 percent of the country’s wine production. In fact, if California were a country, it would be the fourth largest producer of wine in the world.

Given that California shares the same latitude as the famed growing regions of Europe, wine pioneers found early success in planting and growing European grapevines throughout the state. Over the years, winemakers experimented with plantings in diverse areas of California with a variety of outcomes and, over time, an industry was born.

Today, California’s acclaimed regions – most notably Napa, Sonoma and the Central Coast –produce award-winning wines with a significant place on the world stage.
