    Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2008 Alamos Cabernet Sauvignon presents a dark purple color with garnet tones. The nose is explosive, with red fruit flavors, sweet spice and a touch of fresh mint. The mouthfeel is full yet soft, with red currant and cassis fruit layered with notes of cigar box, leather and ripe black fruits. The finish is focused, with finely grained tannins adding structure and length.

Cabernet is called the “king” of the noble grape varieties of France. This bottle deserves a title, too, as a princely wine for a pauper’s price. The Wine Spectator had nice things to say about it, and we agree it’s a bargain.

You’ll get the classic Cabernet flavors of berries and clove, with a little oak and a velvet finish.

This well-crafted Cabernet Sauvignon puts a lot into the bottle and the glass. The warmth-loving grape is obviously very much at home in the vineyards of South Eastern Australia, where sun is abundant, water is scarce and winemaking is robust.

You’ll be drawn into the aromas of raspberry jam and chocolate, and that exotic note of eucalyptus. Flavors of dark currants and raspberry play over layers of warm spice and cinnamon.

This Cab comes from one section of the Brookman Vineyard planted in 1940 in rugged ironstone gravel. Great heat retention to drive maturation of flavor components. Whole berry fermentation got every nuance of flavor and helped frame a coherent tannin profile.

An inky wine, crimson in color. A classy, perfumed, aristocratic nose of pure Cabernet Sauvignon. Extraordinary aromas of black currants and high quality French oak scented bouquet. Elegant flavors of black fruits, smoky herbs, eucalyptus and vanilla.

Clarendon Hills wines occupy the ethereal stratosphere of 90 + wines, and Winemaker Roman Bratasiuk keeps it that way by insisting on perfection in every step, every day. Everything is 100 per cent: 100 per cent Cab, 100 per cent hand-picked, 100 per cent French oak.

This wine is nearly opaque purple in color, revealing aromas of herbs, earth, chocolate and cedar. A tightly structured wine with flavors of cassis, black berries, cedar and layered earth.

Let’s hear it for a California winery that makes a Cabernet with a moderate 13.5% alcohol level! It’s all here: the layers of flavor, the big mouthfeel, the tidal wave of Cab aromas. Spice, chocolate, vanilla.

The winemakers get their grapes from the Central Coast and Sonoma County. The warmer Central Coast fruit gives you the lush fruit flavors, and Sonoma adds that Cabernet structure.

We found blueberry, black currant, herbal spices and a sequence of chocolate flavors.

Plush, ripe Merlot plus deep, structured Cabernet Sauvignon. Bordeaux varieties were widely planted in the Friuli region of Tre Venezie during the 19th Century, and Merlot and Cabernet are among the most successful, locally and for export.

With 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet, and not a touch of oak, this is a good example of how to make a fruit-forward wine with character. Ripe berries, dark fruit and spice flavors.

Close your eyes, Cab lovers, and just listen: 90 points, four stars, “wine to buy” ranking. You want that wine, and here it is. Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley is the warm, hillside secret behind some of California’s “cult” Cabs. Rich clay and loam soils in these vineyards are perfect for Cabernet.

Whole berry fermentation helps keep all the fruit flavors right up front here. A mix of French, U.S. and European oak holds it all together, showing cedar, hints of vanilla and dark chocolate on the finish.

We are currently sold out of this vintage.
