The Grape. The Region.
Spain’s premier white wine, Albariño, thrives in the Rias Baixas appellation of Galicia in Northwest Spain. A perennial favorite throughout Spain, Albariño is also popular in Portugal, where it is known as Albarinho.
Proximity to the Atlantic Ocean significantly impacts the Albariño grape during the growing season. Dubbed “the Wine of the Sea,” Albariño inherently reflects the prevalent seafood dishes of Galicia’s fishing villages.
Wine Style. Wine Flavor.
Noted for its distinct aromas of peach, apricot and almonds, Albariño is an intensely fragrant white wine. Dry, yet full-bodied, this wine often exhibits refreshing flavors of grapefruit, melon and lemon zest. Albariño’s pronounced acidity lends a crisp, elegant character to the wine, which is typically fermented in stainless steel with little or no exposure to oak.
