    Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc began as a wild vine in southwestern France, and is now known to be a “parent” to the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. In California, this white (green, actually) grape ranks third in planted acres. That’s because it makes a nice wine.

Barefoot winemaker Jennifer Wall makes this wine in the style pioneered back in the late ‘60s: honeydew and pear, with a nice soft finish.

This is “easy to enjoy” personified. A very, very likeable wine. All steel, no oak, moderate alcohol, great acidity, tons of absolutely luscious fruit aromas and flavors. The style leans slightly toward the New Zealand model, with a light touch of herbaceous grassiness. And the broader California sunshine effect really brings out the fruit.

You’ll get grapefruit and lime, some tropical guava and mango. This wine vibrates with flavor.

Sauvignon Blanc means many things to many people: grassy, herbal, fruity, aromatic. The key to this wine is balance. All things in moderation and in place. This edition is tipped slightly toward the California “fruit forward” end of the spectrum. Still crisp and refreshing.

Flavors of honeydew melon, citrus and ripe apple. A little sweetness on the finish leaves a pleasant aftertaste.

Sauvignon Blanc is an easy-to-enjoy, amusing, goes-with-anything kind of wine. Here is a great example. Sip it out on the deck or with spicy take-out. Why not try it while you’re standing by the grill, waiting for the barbecue to reach that sweet spot? A three-week fermentation in stainless steel gives this Mirassou Sauvignon Blanc a little extra oomph on the palate.

Tropical fruit and melon balanced with grape and pear flavors. Ever so slightly grassy, in typical Sauvignon Blanc fashion.

Redwood Creek winemaker Cal Denison is known for his adventurous spirit and his passion for the outdoors. Cal’s love of all things California shines through in this lively Sauvignon Blanc.

Flavors of fresh green apples, ripe orange blossoms and honeydew melon. A touch of Semillon in the blend lends a nice sweetness balanced by a crisp acidity. California sunshine in a bottle.

This newcomer is already bringing home Gold and Double Gold at prestigious international wine competitions. It has all the characteristics of a classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc: intense fruit, crisp acidity, approachable style.
The long, cool growing season and the maritime influence of New Zealand’s South Island really shine through.

Honeydew melon, passion fruit and peach framed by a citrus backbone. Aged in 100% stainless steel to give it a bright, refreshing palate. Summer in a bottle.

Winemakers used a very gentle membrane press to extract the juice from these Sauvignon Blanc grapes, giving the finished wine an abundance of bright fruit flavors. The warm days and cool nights of California’s vineyards shine through in the bottle. Classic flavors of gooseberry and citrus. A long, clean finish.

We like this Sauvignon Blanc with spicy Indian fare. Try it next to Chicken Tikka Masala in a mild curry sauce.

Whitehaven has been making top quality Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand’s Marlborough region for nearly 15 years. Winemaker Simon Waghorn used grapes from the Wairau and Awatere Valleys to produce this intensely aromatic and fruit-forward wine.

Crisp and clean. Classic grassy and ripe citrus accents. Hints of gooseberry and currant leaf.

The wine was aged on light yeast lees for a few months to give it that nice, round mouthfeel. This is the kind of Sauvignon Blanc that made the world sit up and take notice of Marlborough.
